Jim McClellan worked for 40 years in the railroad industry. Along the way, he worked at Southern Railway, New York Central, Penn Central, the Federal Railroad Administration (twice), Amtrak, the U.S. Railway Administration, the Association of American Railroads, Southern (again), and Norfolk Southern. He retired from Norfolk Southern as the Senior V.P. for Planning.

He was among the core group that created Amtrak and Conrail, and later was a part of the teams that created Norfolk Southern and then managed the split of Conrail between CSX and Norfolk Southern.

He has a passion for trains, something that began when he was about five years old (the Atlantic Coast Line ran through his backyard). He has been a rail photographer for almost 60 years.
 
 

Now a Vice President for Woodside Consulting, he continues his involvement in the industry and gives numerous speeches dealing with both the past and the future of the railroad business. Jim has a number of hobbies; he is a painter, he models railroads, and he has been a passionate boater for years (both sail and power). Now, he spends much of his time traveling the world, photographing people, places and animals (and trains).
 
 

Jim has been married to Joanne for 50 years and has a daughter and son and three grandsons.
