Alaska Railroad, Janurary 2010: The southbound Aurora runs on Sunday, leaving at 8:30 am. It is dark and cold, minus 25 degrees F. The train heads into a winter wonderland, and Denali is visible on this trip from 100 miles away. We pass the Denali Park station, buried in snow. The train has a mechanical problem at Hurricane and one car is set out. The train proceeds, now hours late, but still picks up passengers who come out of the woods to catch it. |
