|In June of 2010, I rode the locomotives of Norfolk Southern intermodal train 21Q between Harrisburg and Chicago. It took 20 hours, most of it in daylight because of the long summer days. The train was handling over 250 containers, all for domestic customers such as J.B. Hunt and Hub. Intermodal has been the "engine of growth" for the railroad industry, and intermodal traffic, despite the slow economy, continues to boom. The railroad was simply magnificent, not a bit of deferred maintenance and operations were crisp and on time.
